Call to ACTION:
Nine reparations-related bills passed the legislature recently, including AB 62, which the Multi-Faith ACTION Coalition supports! Now we need to ask the Governor to sign them.
Thank you for advocating for restorative justice for the families of those unfairly dispossessed of property taken by racially motivated and illegal eminent domain.
Summary:
This bill establishes procedures by which a person who lost property because of racially motivated eminent domain, as defined, may apply to the Civil Rights Division (CRD) for the return of the property, if still in possession of the entity that did the taking, other public property of equal value, or financial compensation..
Why we support AB 62:
AB 62 seeks to review, investigate, and make determinations regarding claims for compensation from individuals who assert ownership of property taken due to racially motivated eminent domain. We support this bill as it recognizes the impact of unjust property takings on communities, and it aims to provide compensation to those affected by racial discrimination.
