What is the Problem and how did we get here?
Contra Costa County faces an enormous housing gap where production is not keeping pace with demand. Despite their best efforts, local and state governments have fallen short in providing a solution to this crisis. The number of individuals, families, and children who live without permanent stable housing is increasing and our ability to provide adequate housing options is falling far behind this growing demand. Further, the amount of time homeless people are spending on the streets has gotten longer as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
How can we solve the problem?
Join us to learn about new and innovative solutions to our affordable housing crisis which combine cost efficient and quicker to assemble housing solutions with professional supportive services. These cottage communities can be built in 1/5 the time and cost and provide residents with their own dry, warm and secure places that are also part of a larger, self-supporting community.
Our partners at Firm Foundations, HomeAid Northern California, and Factory OS have developed a range of exciting and groundbreaking options to create housing more quickly and more affordably. Having diversity of housing solutions allows us to carefully pick the best option for each location and community. The first of these projects in Contra Costa County is planned at Grace Presbyterian Church in Walnut Creek.
We hope you will join us to learn more about the advancements in the world of micro or tiny homes. Our California Housing & Community Development approved homes each have a toilet, shower, fridge, stovetop, and kitchen sink. Every community will also have office space and laundry facilities, as well as an outdoor communal gathering spot.
By providing permanent housing coupled with vital support services, we can heal the effects of poverty and homelessness. Please join us to learn how to be part of the solution.
