Shelter in place but don’t be silent

Dear Friends:
Because of the current situation that we and our faith communities are all in responding to COVID-19 spread and latest governmental orders, this email will be short. We all know that even as this matter rightly takes so much attention, the deep concerns for which we act together--poverty and all its manifestations and causes--continue through, and are heightened by, the current situation.
Please take action as you shelter in place.  When we have a moment like this, we each are called on to do our part, to support one another, and to choose to respond to crisis with courage over fear, calm and compassion over panic.
Let us pray for each other and support each other as we can.

The Multi-Faith ACTION Coalition called upon public officials in Contra Costa County to work together and do everything possible to mitigate a potential COVID-19 outbreak in Contra Costa County’s jails by signing a letter with other organizations.  The coronavirus is spreading quickly among high concentrations of people in close proximity.  A coronavirus outbreak in our jails would spread quickly and potentially be catastrophic. Our shared faith values lead us to honor human dignity and feel the utmost concern for all of the people in our community.  Please call the Sheriff and your Supervisor and urge that they expedite life saving measures today!
