One of our initiatives is Contra Costa Zero: 2016 –part of a national campaign to house all homeless veterans by the end of 2015 and all people who are chronically homeless by the end of 2016. We believe if we concentrate on housing solutions, rather than short-term housing or aid without housing, zero is realistic. Only 3% of permanent supportive housing residents become homeless again in Contra Costa.
Learn from our Keynote Speaker Michael Whithey at the Annual August ACTION Update about how we can help increase housing available to people living on the fringes of our economy. Michael is the Executive Director of Micro Community Concepts in Portland, Oregon and he will share with us how his community has developed “tiny homes” and has greatly contributed to fighting homelessness. We will share ideas on how our faith communities will respond to the moral imperative to help the poor and disadvantaged among us through this campaign.
We hope you and key leaders in your congregation will join us for one of these important meetings. Please RSVP to contactmfac@gmail.com by August 14 so we can be sure to have enough meals for everyone who attends.
Our faith teachings lead us to this work and our multi-faith voices can make a difference!
