The Dignity of Work

A meeting of the Multi-Faith ACTION Coalition’s
Jobs Task Force

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

We all know someone who is unemployed and struggling with finding a job…or finding a job that pays a living wage. We may also have known the frustration of not knowing how to help.

Come meet organizations helping the people of East Contra Costa County prepare themselves to regain the dignity of work; learn how we, as faith communities, can be part of this important work; and hear an update on minimum wage plans in the County.

August 25, 2014, Monday, Noon to 1:15 PM

SparkPoint
Ambrose Community Center
3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point

Lunch provided, please RSVP.

Presenting their services:

At Opportunity Junction, technology, literacy and personal development combine with real world experience to put people on the road to economic self-sufficiency.
  • East Bay Works – one stop career centers for self-directed career development services, including career assessments, workshops, job listings and referrals; and special programs with one-on-one job coaching and job training for those meeting program criteria.
  • Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) – provides services for youth, ages 15 to 25, to assist them in achieving their educational and employment goals. The program emphasizes education, assessment, workshops, job referrals and placement, referrals to supportive services, and one-on-one coaching.
  • St. Vincent de Paul - the Workforce Development Program provides paid training and work experience for those who are new to or have been out of the workforce, through on the job training, workshops, and mentoring. The goal of our program is to help participants with barriers to employment find long-term, satisfactory work at a decent wage upon the conclusion of the 24-week SVdP WFD Program.
Join us for lunch and dialog on what we, as faith communities, can do to help these organizations help more people return to the dignity of work.
