Recently, the Point in Time Report was released by Contra Costa County and it received media attention. Did you see the results?
Thanks to all of the Multi-Faith ACTION Coalition and other faith-community volunteers who took shifts at various service points on January 26 and 27 to identify people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness and obtain information for the PIT Count from them.
The number of homeless individuals has decreased
The good news is that the 2017 PIT Count shows a continued downward trend in the Contra Costa County homeless population: 1,607 counted this year, down 7% from 2016 and down 21% from 2015 PIT Count totals.
But the persistence of homelessness continues to provide significant challenges, such as inadequate shelter capacity and access to truly affordable permanent housing. Blessings to all who continue to advocate in your communities to meet these challenges.
Reviewing the Point In Time Count Report and many other documents and information, the Contra Costa Civil Grand Jury has issued two reports about homelessness. Worth a read and more importantly, let's help implement the findings. Read MoreReport Two
