The Covered California deadline has been extended to Dec. 22 for coverage to start Jan. 1 or through Jan. 31, 2018 for coverage to start Feb. 1. You can even get financial assistance to help pay for your health care costs. You can also enroll in no-cost or low-cost Medi-Cal health plans year-round, if you have lower incomes. NOW is the time to sign-up for health insurance for you and members of your family.  It's called Open Enrollment.  Go to www.coveredca.com for all the information you need.  A single on-line application, which is free and obligates you to nothing, will inform you about health insurance plans as well as indicate whether you are eligible for Medi-cal (a free government insurance program).   You will be able to choose from health plans. Typically, there will be three plan options: Silver, Gold & Platinum.  Choose the best value for you. You may be entitled to a Federal Tax Credit depending on your choice.  If you need guidance call 1/800-787-6921 Monday through Friday, 8 AM-5 PM and Saturday, 8 AM-6 PM to speak with counselors who's only job is to explain your choices.  No commissions are paid and you incur no fees.   Sign up before December 31, 2017 in order to begin your eligibility as of January 1, 2018.
